
Weave a Colourful Placemat for Beginners
About this Event
During this interactive workshop via Zoom, Tabara N’Diaye of La Basketry will guide you through some of the basics of weaving a coiled placemat using jute twine – how to start your base, join in new material and finishing your project.
This class is open to beginners and available with materials or without materials :
£40 with materials / £30 without materials
With materials (UK only)
You will receive enough materials to make a placemat in two colours (pink and blue) – materials are sent a week before the workshop (except a pair of scissors and measuring tape/ruler that you will have to provide) – for any bookings after Friday 25th of September, we won’t be able to ship materials to you
Colour palette: turquoise/orange
Without materials
You will need:
4 m of jute rope, 70m of jute twine (35m in pink and 35m in blue, 1 needle, 1 measuring tape or ruler, 1 pair of scissors

Tabara N’Diaye is the author of ‘Baskets’ a craft book released in May 2019 demystifying the art of basket-making for makers at all levels with projects ranging from coasters to basket bags.
She is also the founder of La Basketry, a lifestyle brand offering baskets and home accessories designed in collaboration with a group of female artisans in Senegal, West Africa.
